Where to watch the Merdeka fireworks

These locations have a published 2026 fireworks programme or an organiser-advertised fireworks view. Midnight means the moment Sunday, 30 August becomes Monday, 31 August.

Planning to watch from Shah Alam?

Selangor’s official countdown has moved from Shah Alam to Stadium Kajang in 2026. The familiar Seksyen 10 and Dataran Kemerdekaan viewing areas are therefore not dependable for the usual state fireworks this year. For a confirmed Shah Alam display, head to i-City for the earlier 9:00 PM show.

Festival Ambang Merdeka at Dataran Merdeka

Status: Confirmed fireworks display

Date: 29–31 August 2026; main countdown on 30 August

Countdown programme: From 10:30 PM

Fireworks: Midnight, entering 31 August

Admission: Free

Best for: The full Kuala Lumpur Merdeka atmosphere

The official concert and countdown culminate in fireworks over Dataran Merdeka. Visitors may use the field and designated pedestrian areas, subject to event controls. Bring a picnic mat, arrive early and use Masjid Jamek LRT because Jalan Raja and surrounding roads are restricted.

The programme includes a parade, uniformed-unit performances, local entertainment and fireworks. Several roads around the stadium will close, so use designated parking or shuttle arrangements and follow police instructions.

Popular viewpoints that are not dependable for the confirmed displays

KLCC Park, Saloma Link, Taman Tasik Titiwangsa, Taman Tasik Shah Alam, KL Tower and Putrajaya’s lakeside may provide atmosphere or a distant skyline view, but none should be treated as a guaranteed clear view of the confirmed fireworks above. Taman Botani Shah Alam is not suitable for a late-night countdown, while roadside hill viewpoints create parking and safety concerns.
