Selangor has many things going for it – it is the most developed state in Malaysia; it houses the largest seaport and airport, its infrastructure and communications facilities are among the best in the region, and there are great institutions of higher learning here.
For those who seek it, Selangor offers many fascinating and scenic destinations in the country.
Located on the west coast of Peninsula Malaysia, the state of Selangor occupies some 125,000 sq. km. Outside its cities, Selangor is adorned with lush green vegetation that varies with the landscape and topography – from the coastal mangroves and verdant tropical rainforest right down to the charming fishing villages that dot the coastline, such as Sekinchan, Tanjung Sepat, Pulau Carey and Pulau Ketam. These fishing villages provide a unique home stay experience, especially for those who love fishing.

Kuala Selangor Nature Park (Taman Alam Kuala Selangor in Malay) is a haven for a wide variety of flora and fauna, Kuala Selangor Nature Park (Taman Alam Kuala Selangor) comprises over 200 hectares of coastal land where a large part of it is mangrove swamps.
Mangrove ecosystem are extraordinary in that they protect the coastline, serve as fish breeding ground, give refuge to diverse wildlife and supply wood. Kuala Selangor Nature Park is much more than just mangrove trees in a swamp. The Nature Park stretches over 800 acres of three distinct habitat which include inland secondary forests, muddy estuaries and mudflats, and a brackish lake that is inhibited by wetland animals.
The area also has more than 150 species of birds and an estimated 100,000 wading birds, comprising 30 species, passing through here on their annual migration. Thus bird watching is perhaps one interesting activity in Kuala Selangor Nature Park.
Set in a lush tropical forest, Broga Hill is at the edge of the Titiwangsa Range. It is also known by the locals as ‘Bukit Lalang’ as this grass grows in abundance on the hill top lending it a mystical setting. The climb up the first peak can be daunting for first timers but there are ropes that are tied to trees that help you along. The view at the top is definitely well worth the climb. The once lush tropical forest is now covered with “resam” or “lalang” cogon grass giving the hill an almost picture book quality. It is a good treat…a reward for the climb.
Broga Hill is frequented by casual hikers. It is approximately 400m in altitude and is easily climbed by most people. The hilltop is unique as it is rather devoid of trees, which is an uncommon sight amongst tropical rainforest. Remnants of burnt out tree trunks indicate that the area may have been ravaged by a forest fire and the trees did not regrow. It offers a good view of the surrounding area and has become a popular picnic and photography spot.
13 km from Rawang via Jalan Selayang – Rawang and 21 km from Kuala Lumpur, Taman Rimba Templar (Templer Forest Park) is located in Templar Forest Reserve, a part of the State Forest Park, also known as the Taman Warisan Negeri Selangor (Selangor State Heritage Park). This forest is a dipterocarp hill forest.
There is a swimming pond, perfectly suited for visitors who wish to be at leisure while enjoying the natural beauty of flora and fauna. Apart from that, there are fairly challenging trails for visitors who want a little more adventure.
