The Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2023: Why You Should Go and Why You’ll Need to Rent a Car

Something is going on in Langkawi and you’re going to want to know about it. If you are a lover of all things that fly or float, have we got a treat for you? Of course, we are talking about the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2023. Don’t worry if you’ve never heard about it, we are going to explain everything.

What is it?
The Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace (LIMA) Exhibition is the biggest maritime and aerospace exhibition in the Asia-Pacific region. Boasting 443 exhibitors showcasing from over 31 countries around the world. And not only that, but it also attracts trade visitors from defence and commercial sectors worldwide. It truly is an event that cannot be missed.

What can you see there?
There are so many things to see for maritime and aerospace enthusiasts. There are indoor displays and booths, a huge outdoor static display and a wide array of aero and maritime demonstrations. The best part is that the 2023 LIMA exhibition is going to the biggest one in its 30-year history, so it is going to be one to remember.

When is it?
The five-day event is going to be taking place for its 16th run on the 23-27 of May.

Where is it?
As the name suggests, the exhibition is going to take place on the beautiful Langkawi Island, just off the coastline of Penang. It truly is like a paradise on earth. Now that you’re coming along to the LIMA exhibition, you’ll have to take advantage of seeing some of the sites that the exquisite island has to offer.

Eagle Square

No visit to Langkawi is complete without a visit to Eagle Square. It is possibly one of the most recognisable sites that Langkawi has to see.

Here you will find a whooping 12 metre statue of an eagle with its wings spread. After taking a few snaps of the impressive sculpture why not take a stroll and check out some of the fountains or take a bite to eat at one of the restaurants nearby.

The Langkawi Cable Car

If you are into stunning views of green untouched forestland or pristine waters with a bird-eye view of the archipelagos, then you have no choice but to take a ride on the island’s cable car.

The 15-minute journey to the observatory deck that stands at a height of 708 metres will leave you completely awestruck. Also, if you visit on a clear day, you might just catch a glimpse of Sumatra (which is all the way in Indonesia).

Air Hangat Village

After a long day of checking out the exhibits at the LIMA exhibition, I strongly recommend that you visit Air Hangat Village. Here you can find some natural hot springs where you can relax and let the hot water take your pain away.

If you do decide to visit, you can also take advantage of several spa treatments and even get a massage. You will be nice and fresh for the following day of fun at the LIMA exhibition.

A Mangrove Boat tour

For the next destination, it’s a good idea to take a boat tour of the beautiful mangroves that are all over the island. While on the tour you will be able to see numerous caves and views of the luscious rainforests.

The tours do take a few hours. However, there are opportunities during the boat ride to get out at different mangroves where you can take a break from the boat.

Telaga Tujuh Waterfalls

Another amazing thing about the LIMA exhibition being on the island of Langkawi is that there will be countless opportunities to see breath-taking waterfalls hidden within the rainforests. The most popular of these waterfalls is the Telega Tujuh Waterfalls.

Even though you will need to take a bit of a hike to reach this stunning waterfall, it is completely worth it. The hike will be a small price to pay to see such beauty.

Pantai Cenang

Now, the next recommendation is to visit one of the most beautiful and popular beaches that Langkawi has to offer. If you love to relax on white sandy beaches, this is just the place for you.

And for all you thrill-seekers out there, the beach also offers a wide variety of water sport activities from paragliding or jet skiing to snorkelling the clear blue waters.

Mahsuri Tomb and Museum

The last place on this list is going to be somewhere you can find out about the history and myths of the elusive island. Mahsuri was said to be one of the island’s most beautiful residents on the island before being sentenced to death by other villagers.

As well as the beauty that was Mahsuri, you may also want to hear about why the island was cursed for a large number of years. It is always a good idea to get an idea of the history and culture of the places you visit, so, it is highly recommended that you make the effort to visit this incredibly interesting destination.

Renting A Car or Booking A Chauffeur

Now that you know about the LIMA exhibition plus are well aware of all the different destinations you can check out, it has come time to talk logistics. There is no other way to get the most out of your trip and rent a car or book a chauffer to be able to explore the island. Here are a few reasons why.

Public Transport

While there is public transport on the island, it is rather limited and is not always so close to all the destinations on our list. Public transport can be a nightmare at the best times, so why not skip the mess.

One more thing to remember, which we have already mentioned, is the 2023 LIMA exhibition is going to be the biggest one in its 30-year history, so as you can imagine the public transport is not going to be as overcrowded as ever and will not be a smart choice for a comfortable trip.

Taxis

One thing to take note on is that taxi fares in Langkawi are unregulated, so this means that there is a high chance you are going to pay more than you bargained for. In addition, the taxis on the island follow a fixed route, so this means being able to move around freely will be virtually impossible.

Renting a car

One of the best options for getting around Langkawi on your trip to visit the LIMA exhibition and explore everything that the island has to offer is to rent a car. By renting a car, you will ensure that you have the freedom to visit the island’s offerings at your own  pace and if you are renting with a group, its by far the most cost-effective alternative.

Hiring a Chauffeur

If you are looking to have the most luxurious experience to ensure that your trip to Langkawi for the LIMA exhibition is one to truly remember, then you simply must hire a chauffer for your stay.

This will mean that you can enjoy the demonstrations and exhibitions plus explore the destinations the island boasts without a care in the world. It would be an experience you would never forget. So now you know that if you are a member of the maritime or aero industry, a boating and aero enthusiast or you simply want to know more about what the industry has to offer then you need not look any further than the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace exhibition.

You are sure to have an excellent time at the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace exhibition and I truly urge you to make an effort to see everything that Langkawi has to offer on your trip there. So, the best thing to do is to is to rent a car or hire a chauffeur. By doing this, you are going to make the whole LIMA experience so much more convenient and you can let your focus be on the exhibition and the beauty of the island instead of stressing over public transport and high taxi fares. Safe travels!
